Players start with three gold and two dice. They use the dice to perform all sorts of actions. The position of the boat on the river states where players could build their tents, necessary for points and victory. Anyway, it's roll roll roll your dice; a player takes one, and perhaps one more but this must be higher. Players exchange the die roll for taking action cards, take as much money as the die states, place a tent, or draw gems from the bag. These gems are worth money, black gems are worth nothing.
A player could also decide to put money in his chest, as the player with the least money at game end is excluded from victory - a condition we already encountered in 'Cleopatra' from Days of Wonder.
Each turn the boat is moved one square to the right, looking upward into a row where players can build that turn. In the course of the game, it gets more expensive to build, but also the victory points are more rewarding.
When the boat has reached the far right of the board, the game ends after that round.
