Three to five players sail along the West Indies coast to establish trading houses for the five companies from France, Finland, Sweden Britain and Holland. They all start in the lower left, just having rounded Cape of Good Hope.
Along the coast sea tiles are placed; the first few are placed face up.
In a turn, a die determines how many ship cards are placed face up that may depict any of the five countries. An auction determines which player gets all the cards; there is a closed money system - the money that has been bid is divided among all other bidding players.
The cards are placed in front of the player.
x
Cards can be added for a country in a later turn, but a majority has to be made or kept otherwise no cards may be added.
If a player has a majority, he may move his pawn up to the tile of that country, take the tile, and place it in front of him. These tiles may be exchanged for money; the only way to bring in more money into the game.
x
If a player has a majority in a country, he may place a crate in his colour for that country on the board. Majorities in these cities earn from 10 to 16 points at game end.
x
At the bottom of the board is an arch that is used to mark the amount of played cards per country. If this reaches a fixed total, all cards off this country that the players had face up in front of them are removed, hereby creating the possibility of new majorities by other players.
When a player has reached the end of the route, the game ends.
