Maharani is a tile laying game with a rondell in the center of the game board. The mosaic tiles that lay there are to be placed in the four quarters of the board, depicting the floor of the Taj Mahal palace. There are three ways to score.

The board is built symmetrical, it is formed in such a way, that all players play under the same conditions. For the 60 tiles -10 in each of the six colours- there are 60 construction sites in 3 types on which they have to be placed. Each tile fits in a particular orientation. Pillars restrict tile placement. Points can be scored for mosaic floors consisting of tiles in the same colour, 1 point per tile. When a player succeeds in placing a tile in a particular orientation, a worker is placed on it; goups of adjacent workers score additional points, 1 point per worker. As the workers are limited, each player has to decide when or if he places a worker.

When a quarter is completed, the workers of that quarter are scored again; players could score from 4 to 24 points per worker, for 1 to 6 workers. And, not unimportant: they get the workers back in their supply.
In a player's turn, the player rotates the rondell, builds one or two mosaic tiles, scores and refills the rondell.
There are 4 action markers that make a variable installation. Used markers are turned face down, so future possibilies are narrowed. To regain the full flexibilities, the player may pass a round and turns all markers face up again.

Maharani looks rather simple, yet it is a tricky game in which to use the three scoring possibilities to the full, place the workers at the right places, regain the use of the markers at the right moment and make the right decision when trigger or to delay a score.
A beautiful cloth bag is included.
