Sometimes you get caught by the appearance of a game. In this case, the graphics of the line of games by Polish publisher Granna. These are merely children’s games, but they all look very cute, have a consistent look and friendly gameplay. Yes, these are somewhat older games, but if you were not aware of it yet, it’s still new, isn’t it?

Each player takes a role of the owner of an animal farm. The main goal is to breed, exchange and gather different animals: a rabbit, sheep, pig, cow, and a horse. Players do this by throwing dice and exchanging smaller animals for larger ones. Six rabbits can be exchanged for 1 sheep, for instance, and three pigs for one cow.

The winner is the one who has at least one of each kind in his herd. There are foxes around trying to snatch the rabbits and wolf which eat almost everything, but there are two dogs, a small and a large one, that protect the herd.  This is a classic Polish game from 1943 in a new shiny cloth from 2009.

From the designer of ‘K2’, Adam Katuza, comes this cute family game. Players alternately place a crab tile from their supply of six from behind their screen on the board, trying to make large adjacent collections in any colour.

xx

They weigh their chances when to place one of their crabs on the scoring panel. Is red doing well? Then the player must occupy the x3 bonus square with his red crab before any other player does as only one player can occupy this space with a given colour. But even then, he could occupy the x2 square or choose another colour crab to occupy the x3 space.

There are five colours, and three possible scoring collections. The game ends when all tiles are placed. Scoring is -1 for collections of only one crab, 1 point for collections of 1, 3 points for crab collections containing 4 crabs, and 5 points for collections of 5 crabs and more.

Try to be the first who has all three of his frogs to the lilypads of the other players. Each turn, a player may take a frog and walk over one bridge and take away the bridge just used, or place a bridge.

x

When a frog lands on an already occupied space, he pushes the other frog away in a direction of his choice. Players also have four action cards they can use once during the game: take an extra jump, jump without a bridge, place two bridges, or remove an additional bridge.
